McLaren Third in 2020 Constructors Championship

The Formula One season came to a close at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend and brought with it a season that was filled with struggles and determination. Similar to all other sports, F1 it having to make changes to its racing season due to restrictions for public gatherings and the safety of teams and support staff.

As the season came to a close, Racing Point, a team overhauled by McLaren, helped them earn third place in the Constructors’ Championship. This is their best finish since 2012, and one that is known for being lucrative for F1 teams.

The news of the third place finish came as McLaren Racing announced that it had sold a minority’ stake of the team to an investment consortium based in the U.S. The deal will see the investment consortium injecting a large amount of funds into McLaren as they work towards their goal of being more competitive and returning to the front of the grid.

The news of their third place finish will see an infusion of prize money for the team. Considering the difference between finishing in third and fourth equates to almost £4m, it is welcome news, both for the team and its latest minority shareholders.

Racing Point was instrumental in helping Maclaren finish in third after Lance Stroll finished in 10th. This was further fueled by McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz placing fifth and sixth respectively in the race on Sunday.
